[ Oh. Now Reggie sees where he went wrong: with Scratch, not [at/with] the Scratch. The differentiation, not to mention the realization itself, throws him for a momentary loop, although he wouldn't be able to explain exactly why that is.
He takes a beat to think. Shifts gears, to a slightly more personal one: ]
I mean it's not that we DIDN'T, exactly More like we just never made it that specific I guess.
Gifts and then whatever else. But he did do that whole yule log thing
TBH there's a lot of his traditions and stuff I never found out too much about Probably he talked about that kinda thing more with his witch friends instead
[ It's not like Caliban made a habit of bringing Nick up- in fact, he usually actively avoided it. For a few moments there, it had almost felt like he was stepping in to feel the void left by the witch in Reggie's bed and heart- even if such a thing might not have been true.
Still- the situation didn't leave much room for other options. ]
Ah. Seems... a strange thing not to share with you. It certainly wouldn't have been my choice.
[ But perhaps that was just Nick's way.]
But I see- Well, I suppose I shall have to rely on my own knowledge to fill in the blanks for what I'm missing from making it something memorable. Gifts- however, were always in the plans. So, I suppose that should still work.
[ He isn't sure what to say about that; maybe it's on him for not asking about it, specifically? Maybe Nick didn't want Reggie to feel like he had to pick between either Yule or Christmas? Maybe dozens of things. It's impossible to know anymore exactly why the two of them did or didn't share all things they... well, did or didn't, at whatever level of detail. ]
I think maybe we both figured it was never gonna be like one of our traditional holiday celebrations anyway, so like Why not just make it our own thing, you know?
You could always do that too
Kinda surprised you're askin me though I guess I always just assumed the two of you were both pretty much the same like... IDK religion or whatever
I see- that does make sense. I just know he did celebrate a few of our traditions while he was here.
But yes, I'm sure I'll find a way to celebrate such an event in a way that should be memorable enough. I'll be sure to celebrate it with the people who have my metaphorical heart.
By the end, Nick wasn't even a part of the same Church- his little coven had long given up Lucifer and the Church of the Night but even when he was a part of it...
Well, there's still a difference between Hell and the mortal world, the way we approached the same long night was certainly a stark contrast. So I was trying to see things through a witch's eyes, and without him around...you were the best person to ask, my beautiful boy.
[There are like a thousand different comments on Nick he wants to and could make but honestly all of them would seem petty or cruel and it wasn't subject or a wound of Reggie's that Caliban would find any real joy in tormenting. ] ?
Well, this isn't the Hare Moon. So you won't need to run through the woods wearing very little.
But if you'd like to celebrate a few things with me. I know a few things we can do together.
I suppose I should think about being the one to put on such a tradition this year- since I'm the only one with such notions but that is a little ways off.
[ He's more talking to himself with that, musing.]
There are a few things that carry over Gifts, the Yule log is meant to keep bad luck and spirits away, which is particularly ironic given my nature. The veil between this world and the next is meant to be at it's most thin- which, I cannot say if it applies here but ideally you'd do a ritual to air any grievances with those who passed. Lastly you're meant to watch the new sun break outside after staying up though the long night.

[ Not that Reggie's necessarily one to talk... ]
Took me long enough to even just learn when his bday was
But hey, I'm happy to help
That is, if and when I can

[ Colder than in February, though? Not necessarily. But still. ]
What things?
